Count Basie famously liked that. He really liked the pyramid of sound, and it also made sure there were less tuning problems in the high altos.

Freddie Green is amazing... I agree. However, he did take solos live, just not very many. He also soloed on two Basie recordings. : )

This is pure heaven!!!!!! The Count Basie Band & Orchestra throughout the years was the standard for how jazz music should be played. The musicians were the best, the band was tight. You will never hear music played like this again. Thank you sukapura for posting this video.Charles Williams.
