Puerto Rico could never be independent. Have you read the statistics on how many people in Puerto Rico live off the welfare. You'd be surprised. That's why US won't make us a state either. No matter if a state, colony, commonwealth or independent...it's LA ISLA DEL ENCANTO and you gotta love it. :)
